Special post...

Special not because of the holiday observed by others, special because I'm doing it during my winter break :/

I present to you a game to play and an artist to check out!

Chrono Cross

"The story begins with the hero, Serge, who is thrust into a parallel world where he died under mysterious circumstances over a decade ago. He teams up with a rowdy adventurer, Kid, and sets out in search of the mysterious Frozen Flame, an artifact that lets the holder reshape time and space on a whim. The enigmatic Lynx, a regal man-cat who hunts the Frozen Flame for his own purposes, opposes them. In his quest to return home, Serge will accrue both allies and foes, and he'll find himself thrust into an adventure that reveals his heritage, purpose, and ultimate destiny. Only by crossing between the two dimensions can Serge find the answers to his questions."

"Without revealing any more of Chrono Cross' excellent storyline, it can be said that it successfully pulls off the difficult balancing act every sequel faces. It's not a rehash of the original Chrono Trigger, but neither does it exploit the characters and setting of Chrono Trigger for name recognition alone. Instead, it sets up an equally valid, separate, and well-developed world, then slowly and responsibly weaves in elements, characters, and events from the first title. It doesn't continue the original Chrono Trigger mythos so much as it expands it. Gamers will be stunned by the resolution of the disparate plot threads. And with features like a unilaterally taciturn hero, an accommodating attitude toward interdimensional travel, and a new game+ mode, Chrono Cross manages to maintain the ineffable Chrono Trigger feel."

"The battle system deviates slightly from the RPG norm. The traditional "active time bar" has been replaced with a bar of seven stamina points. While the engine is still ostensibly turn-based, any character can take a turn at any time as long as they have at least a single stamina point remaining. Enemies can even interrupt your characters' attacks. Party members can unleash weak, medium, and strong attacks, which require one, two, and three stamina points, respectively. Even though the game pauses while waiting for input, the ability to start and end a character's turn whenever you please makes for a more frantic, "real-time" experience."

"Elements, Chrono Cross' magic system, is divided into six colors: black and white, red and blue, and green and yellow. The characters all have a "color alignment," which determines their affinity to certain elements. Once you obtain a spell, you place it in an acceptable empty slot on a character's element grid. For example, a spell with level "5+/-2" is a level five spell, but can be placed in any slot from three to seven with the expected drop or rise in effectiveness. Successfully landing a weak, medium, or strong attack adds one, two, or three bars to a characters' element grid. A character with sufficient element bars can cast a spell, but the cost is seven stamina points, temporarily dropping him or her out of action. Combine building element grids and plummeting stamina bars with the dynamic nature of characters' turns, and battles become a constantly shifting endeavor - yet always remain under the player's total control. Once you understand the intricacies of the battle system, encounters are always over quickly."

"Owen is a solo project of musician Mike Kinsella. Kinsella is one of the dominant figures in the Chicago indie scene, having also led the band American Football, and played in the bands Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owls. Owen is known for its soft melodies, sparse playing and plaintive vocals.

Virtual Synopsis: rainy edition

Ok, another week and some games were played, of course.

Started the next season in my dynasty on NCAA 06 with the Wildcats, my star QB stayed and so far they're 3-0 and ranked #9 in the nation. Matt Wilson is the leader of the Heisman list right now and his stats are: 34 of 60 completed throws, 604 passing yards and 12 TD's, 443 rushing yards and 4 TD's. Worth mentioning is the fact that my sophomore WR is #2 on the heisman list.

Didn't do much on FF XII since the last time. Completed the beastiary list for Golmore Jungle and defeated the Elder Wyrm, now on to the Paramina Rift.

Now I went waaaaaay back into the gaming shelf and pulled out Need For Speed: Underground :/ Yes, the first one. Anyway, I chose the Peugeot 206 as my starting car and I'm still racing with it. Recently installed all level 1 performance upgrades on the car, was on the cover of two magazines, 22-25 races won and still unranked in all 4 boards. My car looks nice though ;)

I've been missing Madden 09 something terrible, so I started playing Madden 06 to try and help with the sudden loss of my 360....not really working. But I'm in the first year of the franchise mode and I chose to play with.....the Browns :/ What can I say, I like the uniforms. Anyway they're doing exceptional, with a record of 8-1 and winning their conference. Trent Dilfer (lulz) is my QB and he's 126-235 with 1,843 yards and 17 TD's. My RB is Lee Suggs and he's rushed 167 times for 718 yards and 4 TD's.

Videos: Analena

Little bit of gaming news first, Sony announced that Home will launch tomorrow.

It's the middle of december and I'm walking around in a t-shirt and jeans :/ Then again, it is 65 degrees here in NC for some odd reason...

Vid of the week is Analena, great vocals as I stated earlier this week. Croatian hardcore is awesome.

Game Updates: Dec 9th

I don't think I have much this week...

PC gamers are complaining about all the bugs and issues with the recent GTA IV port. They've taken to giving the game 1 star ratings on Amazon.com, I'm sure that will fix things :/

Killzone 2 is set to be released on Feb. 27th, which means I better buy a PS3 soon...

Halo Wars will be dropping March 3rd, good news I guess

Recent releases worth looking at are:

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2)
Prince of Persia (PC)

That's it :/

Virtual Synopsis

Ok so I'm just going to list some..."achievements" I made in games that I played this week or whatever. :/

Well my 360 is broken so I've just been playing old PS2 games ;_; It's not so bad though, I just miss GTA IV and Madden 09 terribly...

Been playing NCAA 06 (!!) a lot lately...currently in franchise mode and currently playing with the Arizona Wildcats. Finished the season 12-1, led by my sophomore quarterback that's...amazing. His stats for the year were: 123 of 235 for 1828 yards and 24 touchdowns, 134 rushes for 1371 yards and 21 touchdowns. I hope he stays at least one more year...
We won the fiesta bowl and awards received were: Pac-10 championship, Jim Thorpe award, Remington trophy, offensive linemen of the year, Bednarik award and Matt Wilson (the QB) was runner up for the Heisman.
My coach's overall record stands at 61-3, pretty damn good.

Another game I've been playing a lot is FF XII, one of my favorites I do have to say, although FF IX will always be my #1. Playing through it again for the gazillionth time, even though I keep my original file and complete all the sidequests and stuff every now and then.
On the current play through though, I have everyone at level 29 so far, my first team consisting of Vaan, Blathier, and Fran and the backup team made up of Basch, Ashe, and Penelo. Everyone has one quickening and Ashe has Belias, my only esper at this point.
I completed the beastiary for the Henne Mines and the beastiary for Golmore Jungle except for 1 Great Malboro (who I'll track down before moving on). I'm at the save point right before the boss battle with the Elder Wyrm.

And lastly, I tried to play some Killzone but the fucking disc seems to be broken, after about a minute of playtime, it freezes up :/

My last algebra test is tomorrow and I'm sure I'll ace it, which will mean I'll be exempt from taking the final...fuck yea!
